With a 15-year plus life expectancy, availability in more than 500 colors and superior gloss and color retention characteristics, Tnemec’s Series 700 HydroFlon has quickly become the “go-to” coating system for water tanks throughout the country. In 2003, the city of Joplin paved the way for the State of Missouri, becoming the first location in the state to utilize Series 700 for the construction of their new one-million-gallon hydropillar.
The exterior steel of the water tank was prepared in accordance with SSPC-SP6/ NACE No. 3 Commercial Blast Cleaning, and primed with Series 91-H2O HydroZinc, a moisture-cured, aromatic urethane zinc-rich primer offering superior bonding to steel surfaces that are abrasive-blast-cleaned.
The erected steel was field-coated with an intermediate coat of Series 73 Endura-Shield, an aliphatic acrylic polyurethane providing excellent resistance to abrasion, wet conditions and corrosive fumes. The exterior then received a topcoat of Series 700 HydroFlon, a fluoropolymer polyurethane, completing the coating system.
The tank’s interior steel also received a prime coat of Series 91-H20 Hydro-Zinc following surface preparation in accordance with SSPC-SP10/NACE No. 2 NearWhite Metal Blast Cleaning. Two coats of Series FC20 Pota-Pox, a polyamide epoxy, completed the interior coating system.
