Series 157 Enviro-Crete, a flexible, breathable coating with excellent elastomeric properties, was chosen to protect the RSA Parking Garage in Montgomery, AL.
The Retirement Systems of Alabama (RSA) provides retirement and other benefits to the employees of state government and public education, as well as some local, county, public and quasi-public organizations or political subdivisions in the state. Composed of the Employees’ Retirement System (ERS), Teachers’ Retirement System (TRS) and the Judicial Retirement Fund (JRF), the RSA has more than 314,000 members.
In the late 1980s, the RSA built a parking garage at its main office building in Montgomery, Ala. The concrete building serves many daily drivers and must withstand constant exposure to the elements, including high winds, rain and intense sun/UV rays prevalent in the South.
Project architects wanted to do as much as possible to protect the garage from corrosion and movement in the concrete all while maintaining the color. To achieve this, two coats of Series 157 Enviro-Crete, a modified waterborne acrylate with a sand textured finish, were applied to all exterior concrete, bumper guards and pipe rails.
A flexible, breathable coating primarily for concrete and masonry that can fill and bridge minor hairline cracks, Series 157 offers excellent elastomeric protection against driving rain, freeze-thaw and UV light.
Completed in 1989, the project has “done extremely well,” according to Tnemec consultant Robert Crumbaugh.
