In 1973 the Texas State Legislature authorized the creation of local transit authorities and five years later Houston-area voters created METRO and approved a one-cent sales tax to support its operations. METRO opened for business in January 1979, and 25 years later the Authority has transformed a broken bus fleet into a regional multimodal transportation system.
One of 10 operations & support facilities for Houston Metro, the Labco Field Service Center is home to bus maintenance activities. Coated with Chemprobe's Series 620 Phylon 1422 in the mid to late 1980s, the owner was pleased with the performance of the product and when it came time to refresh the appearance of the building in 1999 chose to have the Phylon product reapplied.
Chosen to enhance and protect the appearance of the substrate, Series 620 Phylon 1422 is a non-yellowing acrylic coating that highlights the natural color of masonry by providing a clear, semi-gloss sheen. Roller applied to the exposed aggregate tilt walls at the service center, treated surfaces will appear darker once the product has cured. Being solvent-borne, Phylon 1422 creates one homogeneous layer of protection that repels water while providing a durable, wet-look finish. The product does not alter the natural texture of the surface, nor does it significantly affect the vapor transmission qualities of the substrate.
