Series 291 CRU was the floor coating of choice for the Baillargeon Audi dealership in Grapevine, TX.

The days of the dark, messy mechanic’s shop are long gone, replaced now with bright, clean professional service areas where customers feel welcome. This trend was on the mind of the owner of Baillargeon Audi when it came time to design the service department of his new Grapevine, TX dealership.

Specifically formulated to resist staining from fluids such as grease, oil and gasoline commonly found in garages, hangars and service bays, Series 291 CRU, an aliphatic polyester polyurethane topcoat, was chosen for its durability. The concrete floor was first abrasive blasted, then primed with Series 201 Epoxoprime, a clear polyamine epoxy, and followed by an intermediate coat of Series 280 Tneme-Glaze, also a polyamine epoxy but pigmented to match the topcoat. The use of Tneme-Glaze aids in building film thickness to help hide blast lines from the surface preparation and to add protection for the concrete. The final coat using Series 291 was then applied to give the coating system an extremely tough exterior shell.

The concrete walls in the service area were also protected. After they were appropriately prepared, RJS Painting used Series 130 Envirofill, a cementitious acrylic masonry filler, to help fill and seal the walls before applying Series 113 H.B. Tneme-Tufcoat, a waterborne acrylic epoxy that is a popular choice due to its abrasion resistance and low-yellowing characteristics.

Desiring an “automotive” finish in both the service area and showroom, Design Forum chose Series 1077 Enduralume, a metallic pigmented aliphatic polyurethane that is typically used on the exterior of buildings, but in this case lent the aesthetic appeal and certainly the performance needed for an interior application. Primed first with a polyamide epoxy – Series 27 F.C. Typoxy – a topcoat of Enduralume in a bright aluminum color was spray applied to ensure the best possible finish.

“The owner was very pleased with the result,” Tnemec coatings consultant John Barry said. “We utilized Audi’s corporate branding requirements and were able to create a very clean, sophisticated look for the dealership.”
