Tnemec Introduces New Low-VOC Urethanes for Floors

(KANSAS CITY, Mo., August 6, 2009) – Two high wear moisture cured urethane floor finishes that offer excellent color and gloss retention are now available from Tnemec, according to Joe Schmit, director of the company’s StrataShield flooring division. Series 247 EverThane (gloss) and Series 248 EverThane (satin) are extremely hard, urethane floor coatings with outstanding resistance to abrasion, stains, chemicals, wet conditions and corrosive fumes.

“EverThane floor coatings were formulated for use in high traffic areas where maximum abrasion, stain resistance and protection against aggressive solvents and various chemical solutions is required,” Schmit acknowledged. “Series 247 provides a high-gloss finish, while Series 248 contains an aluminum oxide additive that improves wear resistance and creates a satin appearance to help minimize glare and hide areas with heavy traffic.”

The abrasion resistance of EverThane coatings enables the floor to maintain a new appearance longer than typical epoxy and urethane finishes. Their durability makes them an ideal topcoat wherever outstanding color and gloss retention over an extended period is specified, such as aircraft hangars, automotive service areas, loading docks, manufacturing plant aisles, pharmaceutical plants, chemical storage areas and warehouses.

“Architects, engineers, contractors and owners will appreciate the low VOC (volatile organic compound) and low odor properties of EverThane topcoats,” Schmit noted. “The VOC content in EverThane coatings is compliant throughout the United States and Canada and meets the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating system, making them an ideal choice for new construction projects. And their low odor properties makes them excellent candidates for maintenance work in existing facilities where occupied space is a consideration.

Both EverThane topcoats can be used in their clear form or field-tinted with Series 821 colorant packs to match any of the 16 standard StrataShield colors as well as custom colors. “With or without colorant, EverThane topcoats prevent yellowing, deglossing and fading to ensure the floor maintains its aesthetic appearance for an extended period of time,” Schmit added.

EverThane has been used successfully on a number of projects across the U.S., a few of which include McDonald’s corporate airplane hangar in Chicago, Ill.; the Nomax manufacturing facility near St. Louis, Mo.; the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Division 18 Bus Maintenance Facility in Los Angeles, Calif.; the Packaging Corporation of America in Garland, Texas; and the Chappellet Winery in Saint Helena, Calif.
