Tnemec Company, Inc., Kansas City, Mo., a leading manufacturer of high-performance coatings for specialized architectural and industrial markets, has announced the availability of a new collection of premier finishes designed especially for the architectural community, according to Mark Thomas, manager of product marketing for Tnemec.

Consisting of opaque, metallic and clear coats, the new topcoats feature the latest in coatings technology for architectural applications. The innovation features an extensive color palette, premium metallics and an array of economical application and protection properties developed using the latest technologies. The topcoats are part of an architectural coating system that offers architects the both of best worlds on their projects: enhanced protection and visual distinction.

"Our new Premier Finishes Package combines the efficiencies of high-performing topcoats with enhanced benefits that result from advanced technology," says Thomas. "From smart, durable choices to premium selections with gloss and color retention and most application options, our architectural package offers everything a topcoat should be - ease of application, enduring protection and a spectacular finish."

Opaque Topcoats

According to Thomas, Tnemec's opaques provide architects with the unmatched combination of enduring color preservation and protection for their project designs.

The new FluoronarTM is a superior topcoat that can meet any coating challenge or environment. Utilizing proven fluoropolymer technology, Fluoronar offers enduring color and gloss retention while providing VOC-compliance and lasting protection. Thomas says Fluoronar's sophisticated resin system makes it a premium topcoat that provides long-term economical solutions. "Fluoronar is the ultimate topcoat," he says. "Its performance properties offer both aesthetic and life cycle value to any structure."

Another enduring topcoat with visual appeal is Tnemec's new Endura-Shield ®, according to Thomas. Available in both high-gloss (Series 1074) and semi-gloss (Series 1075) finishes, Endura-Shield exhibits superior abrasion, corrosion and weather resistance qualities.

Metallic Topcoats

Tnemec's new metallic topcoats offer architects the finished look of metal while protecting structures from the effects of industrial and natural environments, says Thomas.

Fluoronar's innovative metallic palette has the most solids and lowest VOCs of any solvent-based fluorourethane on the market. Fluoronar withstands the harshest of natural and industrial environments and provides premium color coverage throughout a project.

For a non-leafing aluminum urethane topcoat, EnduralumeTM finishes with a deep metal polish. It contains UV absorbers that enable it to maintain its color for years, and can be used to accent or completely finish a structure. Both Series 1070 and Series 1077 offer versatile application options of spray, brush or roller.

Yojo Kikuchi, project architect for Ted Tanaka Architects, Los Angeles, Calif., incorporated Tnemec's metallics on terminal signs for a project at the Los Angeles International Airport. "Tnemec's metallic topcoats are perfect for our projects," says Kikuchi. "Since our project involved outdoor signage, we obtained the durable, industrial strength coating necessary for an exterior application while simultaneously achieving great aesthetic value.

Clear TopCoats

Tnemec's line of clear topcoats not only protects, but also enhances and deepens surface colors, according to Thomas. Endura-Clear is an acrylic polyurethane that guards against weathering, fading and graffiti while preserving the pigmented coat beneath. The addition of optional UV absorbers provide further color protection beneath.

A second clear coat offering is the new SpectrathaneTM, which provides similar maintenance protection and also contains special-effect pigments within its high-gloss finish. Spectrathane's naturally reflective elements offer additional effects in the form of metallic and prismatic accents, says Thomas. Series 76M offers architects a metallic effect in virtually any color.

"Tnemec designed these premier topcoat finishes especially for architects because we're aware of their concern for visual appeal and quality materials," says Thomas. "Whether it's an opaque, metallic or clear coat finish, our knowledgeable field representatives are educated in specification writing as well as in designing entire systems."
