HDIM Will Represent Tnemec Company In Canadian Province of Alberta

(EDMONTON, Alberta, July 23, 2009)HDIM Protective Coatings based in Edmonton, Alberta, has been named a product distributor for Tnemec Company Inc., a leading U.S. manufacturer of high-performance protective coatings for industrial and specialty architectural markets, announced Terry Wallace, Tnemec vice president of Sales. The agency covers Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and the Northwest Territories of Canada.

“The staff at HDIM brings more than 100 years of combined experience along with a strong technical background in protective coatings and linings for the Canadian market,” according to Wallace. “HDIM team members are NACE-certified coating inspectors and highly motivated to provide exceptional service to their customers. HDIM has demonstrated the expertise, resources and track record to be successful in this highly competitive market.”

HDIM team members are uniquely qualified to represent the complete line of Tnemec coating products for architectural, industrial, water storage, water/wastewater treatment projects, as well as the company’s StrataShield line of fluid-applied floor and wall coatings for the processing and manufacturing market. “We’re focused on being solution providers,” acknowledged Ron Garrett, general manager of HDIM. “If a customer has a coating-related issue, we can offer a solution based on our expertise and track record as problem solvers.”

HDIM specializes in protective coatings and linings for structural steel, aboveground storage tanks, performance vessels, pipeline coatings (internal and external services), acid transports and production facilities used to extract crude bitumen from Canada’s oil sands. The majority of oil sands in Canada are presently located in northern Alberta where steam assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) technology requires plants to operate at higher temperatures, which places added stress on coating systems.

“Over the years, our individual team members have developed relationships with a wide network of owners, project engineers, coating contractors and inspectors working in the bitumen and synthetic oil extraction industry,” acknowledged Pierre Crevolin, principal at HDIM and a former president of NACE International. “The specialized nature of this industry requires a high level of technical expertise, as well as advanced technology coating systems such as those provided by Tnemec.”

Citing the extensive use of Glass Armor™ products from Bridgeport Chemical within SAGD facilities, Crevolin confirmed that a strong market exists in Canada for Tnemec products. Tnemec manufactures and distributes Glass Armor products under license from Bridgeport Chemical. “Given the established preference in this industry for advanced coating technology, the high level of technical expertise at HDIM distinguishes us from our competitors,” Crevolin noted. “Prior to joining HDIM, our specialists were involved in some of the largest coating projects in this part of the world, requiring tens of thousands of gallons of Bridgeport materials.”

Wallace echoed Crevolin’s assessment of the potential for protective coatings in Canada’s oil industry. “As the largest supplier of crude oil and refined products to the United States, Canada is expected to dramatically increase its bitumen and synthetic oil production in coming decades,” Wallace added. “Tnemec and HDIM’s shared commitment to provide exceptional technical expertise and advanced coating technology for the Canadian oilfield and other major industries represents a solid business strategy for growth and success in this market.”
